The Christening of Princess Alexandra of Kent, the daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark (wearing her Cartier Sapphire Clips), in the Private Chapel of Buckingham Palace on this day in 1937, with a subsequent Reception at the Duke and Duchess’ home in Belgrave Square. Princess Alexandra’s godparents were King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (paternal uncle and aunt); Queen Maud of Norway (grand-aunt); Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna, Princess Nicholas of Greece (maternal grandmother); Princess Olga of Yugoslavia (maternal aunt); the Princess Beatrice (paternal great-grand-aunt); the Earl of Athlone (paternal grand-uncle); and Count Carl Theodor of Törring-Jettenbach (maternal uncle), the only the King and Queen and Lord Athlone were present for the first Royal Family event following the Abdication of King Edward VIII and the Accession of the King George VI.
