King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the traditional Pascua Militar Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Madrid on January 6th, which began with the New Year’s Military Parade outside the Royal Palace of Madrid. After the National Anthem and a 21 gun salute, King Felipe reviewed the Royal Guard. Afterwards, the King and Queen hosted Reception for officials from the Government, the Ministry of Defence, and the Civil Guard in the Saleta de Gasparini, and King Felipe presented honours in the Throne Hall of the Palace, which was followed by a Speech. Due to the ongoing pandemic, social distancing was maintained and masks were worn by everyone. Pascua Militar marks the beginning of the military year and a Spanish National holiday; Epiphany.

Gosh! This is the second royal pear that has “gone rogue” in a short period of time. One of Queen Margrethe’s pearl pendants from her necklace fell during her state visit of Germany last November. I wonder if there are royal jewelers that could review all the jewels that are about to be worn to make sure they’re in good condition. Whatever the case, it’s lucky that the pearls have been rescued both times. Can you imagine if Queen Letizia’s heirloom brooch had been lost!
Lucky for us all Felipe had on a pair a jewelers gloves and didn’t smudge it when he retrieved it for his queen.
