British State Visit to Thailand, 1996

The Thai Royal Family welcomed the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on their State Visit to Thailand on this day in 1996 (25 years ago). The Queen had hosted King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand on their State Visit to Britain in 1960, and had been joined by Princess Anne on a previous State Visit to Thailand in 1972.

Following an Official Welcome Ceremony in Bangkok, which included a Review of the Guard of Honour, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (wearing the Order of the Rajamitrabhorn and the Royal Victorian Chain) and Queen Sirikit of Thailand (in the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) hosted a State Banquet in honour of the Queen (wearing the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara, the Cambridge Emerald Parure, and the Order of the Royal House of Chakri) and Duke at the Royal Palace of Bangkok. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn (in the Royal Victorian Order), Princess Sirindhorn (in the Royal Victorian Order), Princess Chulabhorn (wearing the Royal Victorian Order), and Princess Soamsawali were also present.

Following a series of events in the following days, the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh hosted a Return Concert in honour of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Queen Sirikit (in her Diamond Necklace Tiara and Sapphire Parure) and members of the Thai Royal Family.
