The ‘Banks Diamond’ Pendant/brooch

Estimate: 40,000 – 60,000 GBP

Result: 138,600 GBP

A late 18th century brooch with a cushion-shaped yellow diamond given to explorer and botanist Joseph Banks by his eccentric sister Sarah around the time of his marriage in 1779. Passing from his wife Dorothea to her sister Mary, Lady Knatchbull, the brooch was a Knatchbull family heirloom for centuries.

Diamond Necklace

Estimate: 4,000 – 6,000 GBP

Result: 44,100 GBP

Designed as a garland of ivy leaves in the 1880s, with screw fittings to allow it to be worn as a tiara, this necklace was worn by Lady Pamela for a portrait in the 1950s, and was probably inherited from Edwina, Countess Mountbatten, who may have also worn it to an event in the 1950s.

This diamond brooch designed by the Earl Mountbatten was a gift to his daughter Patricia, the 2nd Countess to celebrate an important occasion, in which he cleverly used a repeated wave motif, a reflection of his association with the sea. The Brooch was worn by Lady Mountbatten at the Wedding of her granddaughter, the Hon. Alexandra Knatchbull, in 2016.

A clip brooch, designed by Earl Mountbatten using the monogram P B for Patricia, Lady Brabourne, the brooch was a gift to the Lady Brabourne on her wedding to Lord Brabourne in 1946, symbolising her new initials.
