Grand Duchess Maria Theresa’s Black and White Pearl Earrings

Happy Birthday to Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, who turns 65 today! The consort of the Sovereign of the world’s only Grand Duchy, the Grand Duchess has one of the most magnificent jewellery collections in her possession, but also has a significant private collection, which includes her Black and White Pearl Earrings.

Featuring a pear-shaped cream pearl and and a coordinating black pearl suspended from a winding, modern pave-diamond frame, these earrings were probably gifts from Grand Duke Henri, and first appeared on a State Visit from Spain in 2006 and were also worn on a State Visit to Sweden in 2008. To mark her 62nd Birthday in 2018, when the Grand Ducal Court released a new official portrait of the Grand Duchess wearing the Black and White Pearl Earrings with the Belgian Scroll Tiara.

Two months later, Grand Duchess Maria Theresa wore the Black and White Pearl Earrings with the Belgian Scroll Tiara for the State Banquet for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands on the first day of their State Visit to Luxembourg. Exactly a month later, the Grand Duchess wore the Earrings again with the Belgian Scroll Tiara and Princess Ingeborg’s Pearl Brooch for the annual National Day Gala. There is no doubt we will continue to see these beautiful jewels for years to come!
