The Funeral of Queen Marie Jose of Italy at the Hautecombe Abbey in Savoy in the South of France on this day in 2001. Hautecombe Abbey is the traditional burial place of the House of Savoy. Born a Princess of Belgium, Queen Marie Jose became the last Queen Consort of Italy, reigning briefly in 1946, and spent the rest of her life in exile in Switzerland.

In addition to the extended Savoy Royal Family, Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included King Albert II (nephew) and Queen Paola of Belgium, Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg (niece), King Juan Carlos I and Infanta Pilar of Spain, Empress Farah of Iran, the Duke and Duchess of Braganza, the Duke (nephew) and Duchess of Aosta, the Duke and Duchess of Castro, Prince Alexandre of Yugoslavia (former son-in-law) and Princess Barbara of Lichtenstein, Archduke Carl Christian and Archduchess Marie Astrid of Austria (great-niece), Princess Napoleon, and Prince Michael of Greece.
