Danish State Visit to the United States, 1960

King Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure, Ruby Bow Brooch, and the Order of the Elephant) attend a glittering State Dinner and Reception at the White House hosted by American President Dwight Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie Eisenhower (the last of their Presidency) on this day in 1960, during their 3-Day State Visit to the United States, just days after Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko’s State Dinner. Other events included a the dedication of the new Danish embassy at 3200 Whitehaven Street N.W. and a performance of the Royal Danish Ballet at Loew’s Capital Theater.
