Shocking news tonight, the Earl and Countess of Snowdon have announced that they will be divorcing after 26 years of marriage. The Earl, the Queen’s nephew and the only son of the late Princess Margaret, and the Countess, daughter of the 12th Earl of Harrington,  have two children, Viscount Linley and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, and got married in 1993. The family spent Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham. This is the latest in a series of shocking announcements from the Royal Family in recent months, with Prince Andrew’s disastrous interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping back from Royal Duties, and the announcement of the divorce of Peter and Autumn Philips.

In a statement, a spokesman for the couple said:

The Earl and Countess of Snowdon have amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced. David and Serena have agreed that their marriage has broken down, they have in effect been living separate lives for some time.

They ask that the press respect their privacy and that of their family.”

Their divorce is expected to be finalised later this year.
