The Danish Royal Family host their cousins King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway on this day in 1991, at the start of a three-day State Visit to Denmark, the first of their Reign just months after their accession. The Norwegian Royal Couple had formally welcomed at the Airport, followed by an Official Ceremony at the Amalienborg Palace, and a Luncheon with the Royal Family at the Fredensborg Palace, ahead of a glittering State Banquet at the Christiansborg Palace hosted by Queen Margrethe (wearing the Danish Pearl Poire Parure and the Order of St. Olav), Prince Henrik (in the Order of St. Olav), Queen Ingrid (wearing the Danish Ruby Parure and the Order of St. Olav), Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Joachim, Princess Benedikte (in the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Fringe Tiara) and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg in honour of King Harald (in the Order of the Elephant) and Queen Sonja (wearing the Norwegian Emerald Parure the Order of the Elephant).

After a Reception at the Copenhagen City Hall the following day, in the evening, Queen Margrethe (wearing the Floral Aigrette Tiara and Crown Diamond Parure), King Harald, Queen Sonja (in Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara and Queen Alexandra’s Diamond Chandelier Earrings), Prince Henrik, and Queen Ingrid (in the Khedive of Egypt Tiara and Queen Alexandrine’s Sapphire Brooch), Crown Prince Frederik, and Prince Joachim, Princess Benedikte (in Queen Sophia’s Star and Pearl Tiara) and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg attended a Gala Performance at the Royal Danish Theatre.

At the end of the State Visit, King Harald and Queen Sonja (in Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara) hosted a Return Dinner in honour of Queen Margrethe (wearing the Danish Emerald Parure), Prince Henrik and other members of the Danish Royal Family!
