King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain host Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark on their State Visit to Spain on this day in 1986, starting with an Official Welcome, followed by the State Banquet hosted by King Juan Carlos (wearing the Order of the Elephant and the Order of the Golden Fleece), Queen Sofia (in the Fleur-de-Lys Tiara and the Order of the Elephant), and Infanta Elena (in the Prussian Diamond Tiara and the Order of Isabella the Catholic) in honour of Queen Margrethe (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Order of Charles III) and Prince Henrik (in the Order of Charles III) at the Royal Palace of Madrid.

The Queen (wearing the Dagmar Floral Tiara and Queen Josefina’s Diamond Brooches) and Prince also hosted a Return Banquet for King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia (in the Floral Tiara and her Sapphire Parure), and Infanta Elena (wearing the Prussian Diamond Tiara), and they also attended another Gala Dinner. The Spanish King and Queen made a State Visit to Denmark in 1980.
