The Wedding of Prince Axel of Denmark and Princess Margaretha of Sweden at the Storkyrkan in Stockholm on this day in 1919. The couple, who were first cousins, had two sons, and it was said that they “were so much in love that they could not be left alone in a furnished room.” Princess Margaretha was the aunt of King Harald V of Norway, King Baudouin and King Albert II of Belgium, and Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte of Luxembourg and grandaunt of King Philippe of Belgium and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.

  1. Another glittering Scandinavian wedding. Thank you for posting about this. The day before the wedding a gala perforance was held at the Opera and I really wish that there were some photos from this event, though I doubt there is. It must have been a regal event with many Royals attending.

    1. That would have been an amazing sight! The Wedding itself was probably a White Tie and Tiara event as well, a pity there aren’t any more pictures!

      1. Yes, it was indeed a white tie and tiara event. I found a description of some of the people attending, but sadly it was only the general description of the jewels worn, like “a diamond tiara”… which doesn’t help a lot as most of them had various diamond tiaras to choose from.
