French State Visit to Britain, 2008

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh hosted President Nicolas Sarkozy and First Lady Carla Bruni of France during their State Visit to Britain on this day in 2008, reaffirming a long alliance. The highlight of the visit was the State Banquet at Windsor Castle hosted by the Queen (wearing the Burmese Ruby Tiara and the Crown Ruby Parure) and Duke of Edinburgh in honour of the President (wearing the Order of the Bath) and First Lady, and also attended by the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall (in the Greville Tiara), Princess Royal (wearing her Festoon Tiara and Festoon Necklace), Duke of York, Earl of Wessex, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (in the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara), Duke of Kent, and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent (wearing the Kent Festoon Tiara).

  1. What fun! You have lots of pictures from inside that we rarely get to see. Everyone is looking great, all dressed up and sparkly. Now, that is a proper state visit!
