Happy Birthday to Carina Axelsson! Born in California to Swedish and Mexican parents, she moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion modelling and later moved to Paris, where she wrote her first book, and is known for her Model Under Cover series. In 2005, she began a relationship with Gustav, 7th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, son of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and nephew of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. The couple are unable to marry due to the stipulations of the will of Prince Gustav’s grandfather (more HERE), but Carina has been accepted as a member of the family and is treated as the de facto Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, residing at Schloss Berleburg, and attending royal events. I wish her a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

  1. Seems like a lovely woman. Even if they cannot get married they get to be together and that is what counts. Her tiara breaks my heart. Gorgeous diamonds on an I-don’t-know-what-is-going-on tiara frame.
