‘Magtens Smykker’ in Koldinghus

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Princess Benedikte, and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece attended the Opening of the ‘Magtens Smykker (The Power of Jewelry) Exhibition in connection with the Koldinghus’ 750th anniversary on May 5th. The anniversary exhibition tells the story of power from 1268 until today through royal jewelry, medals and arrangements, which have been loaned by Queen Margrethe, Crown Princess Mary, Princess Benedikte, Queen Anne-Marie, Queen Elisabeth II, King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden, and Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie of Rosenborg.

Among the glittering jewels on display are the Khedive of Egypt TiaraNassut TiaraMidnight TiaraPrincess Benedikte’s Floral TiaraQueen Sophia’s Star and Pearl Tiara, the Order of the Elephant, Order of Dannebrog, and Queen Margrethe II’s Royal Family Order.

  1. Of all the personally owned tiaras of the Danish royals on display I think Princess Benedike has the loveliest in the floral tiara. It has to be one of the prettiest of its kind anywhere! The Khedive has a lot of sentimentality attached to it, but it’s not that pretty IMO. The one I like the least is the Naasut. It may be an excellent example of something that has great artistry and yet manages not to be very attractive. I’m thinking that it’s the garish appearance of the yellow gold. If it would have been created in silver or white gold or platinum I think it would have improved greatly because then all the little diamonds in the flowers’ stamens and pistils would sparkle and make it quite nice. I wish I had photoshop abilities to change the picture and make that happen, just to see if it would work!
