King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain welcomed and hosted President Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal, at the start of a 3-day State Visit to Spain to strengthen political, economic, and diplomatic ties, on April 16th. The Spanish Royal Couple undertook a State Visit to Portugal in 2016.
In the morning, King Felipe and Queen Letizia officially welcomed President Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal at an Official Welcome ceremony in the courtyard of the Royal Palace in Madrid. During the ceremony, the King and the President reviewed a battalion of the Royal Guard and viewed a parade. Later, the Spanish Royal Couple hosted a luncheon at the Palace of La Zarzuela, which was followed by a meeting with the Portuguese delegation.
In the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia hosted a State Banquet in honour of the President Rebelo de Sousa at the Royal Palace of Madrid. Both the King and President gave speeches.
King Felipe wore a dark suit with a blue tie and the pin of his Portuguese Order. Queen Letizia repeated her blue-grey Felipe Varela woollen jacket and box-pleated skirt with her Bvlgari diamond and aquamarine white gold hoop earrings. For the Banquet, King Felipe wore White Tie with the Collar and Sash of the Portuguese Order of the Tower and Sword, and the Spanish Order of the Fleece. Queen Letizia wore an Ana Locking blue pearl embellished gown with Cartier Diamond and Pearl Tiara (for the first time), Joyas de Pasar Earrings, and the Sash and Star of the Portuguese Order of Christ.
