Banquet at Claridge’s Hotel, 1995

On this day in 1995, the Emir of Kuwait, on a State Visit to the United Kingdom, held a Return Banquet at Claridge’s Hotel for his British Royal Hosts. Take a look at some of the attendees at the Banquet-

The Host of the Banquet, the Emir of Kuwait, who at the time was Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, wore traditional Arabian Dress.

The Queen wore her white and gold chiffon gown with the Modern Sapphire Tiara and the George VI Sapphire Parure. Unlike the other royals, the Queen decided not to wear any orders.

The Prince of Wales wore White Tie with the Sash of the Order of the Garter and the stars, medals, and badges of his other Orders.

The Duke of Gloucester wore White Tie with the Sash of the Royal Victorian Order. The Duchess of Gloucester wore a blue satin ballgown with the Iveagh Tiara, diamond necklace, diamond earrings, an open brooch and the Sash of the Royal Victorian Order

Princess Alexandra of Kent, Lady Ogilvy wore a bright blue gown with the Ogilvy Tiara in its turquoise form, turquoise earrings, the turquoise version of her copy of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Necklace and the Sash of the Royal Victorian Order

Prince Michael of Kent wore White Tie. Princess Michael wore a cream lace gown with the Kent Festoon Tiara, cluster earrings, and a large 2-strand pearl necklace.
