Duke of Edinburgh hosts London Youth event at Buckingham Palace

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron of London Youth, hosted an afternoon reception in the Gardens of Buckingham Palace on May 31st, to celebrate the charity’s 130th Anniversary. London Youth is a diverse network of over 300 community youth organisations who work to support young people of all backgrounds across the capital to become the best that they can be. The Duke became Patron of London Youth in 1947 – it was his first charity patronage.   Continue reading

Victoria & Abdul

Featuring the relationship between Queen Victoria and her Munshi Abdul Karim, the trailer for the upcoming British-American biographical drama film, Victoria & Abdul was released yesterday. Based on the book of same name by Shrabani Basu (a personal favourite of mine), the plot focuses on an older Queen Victoria’s relationship with her Indian bearer, Abdul Karim, who eventually became her Munshi (tutor), and taught her Urdu and the Quran, as well as introduced her to the country of which she was Empress. Dame Judi Dench reprises her role as Queen Victoria from the 1997 film Mrs Brown, while Abdul is played by Indian actor, Ali Fazal. The movie premieres in the UK on September 15.
