The Queen was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Earl of Wessex, as she stepped out out Buckingham Palace and launched the Queen’s Baton Relay for the XXI Commonwealth Games, which will be held on the Gold Coast of Australia in 2018.

The Queen was handed the message she had written and proceeded to put it into the Baton, it will not be read until the ceremony. She handed the Baton to Australian cyclist Anna Meares who took it out of Buckingham Palace, passing it onto Victoria Pendleton for the relay. Later the Queen and members of the Royal Family will attend a service at Westminster Abbey.
