Royal Visit to The Netherlands, 1958

Before the start of the Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to The Netherlands on October 11th, we take a look back at the Queen’s State Visit to The Netherlands in 1958. While the Duchess of Cambridge’s day of engagements won’t be as impressive as the Queen’s State Visit, which included three tiara occasions and was studded with events involving the Dutch Royal Family, it does a promise an opportunity to pay a courtesy call on King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

For the banquet featured in the video, Queen Elisabeth II wore a dark velvet evening gown with Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik TiaraGeorge VI Festoon Necklace, Greville Chandelier Earrings, and the True Lover’s Knot Brooch. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands wore the Dutch Diamond Bandeau, a large necklace & brooch, and covered her shoulder front and back with diamond star brooches. Princess Beatrix wore the Laurel Wreath Tiara. In addition to the royal ladies, you can spot Mary, Duchess of Devonshire wearing the Devonshire Palmette Tiara.
