Swedish State Visit to Germany- Day 1

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden started their State Visit to Germany on October 5th. They attended a welcome ceremony, laid a wreath at a War memorial, met the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and attended a State Banquet at Schloss Bellevue.

The King & Queen started their visit at the Berlin-Tegel airport, where they were received by German President Gauck. They attended an official welcome ceremony at the Schloss Bellevue, where the King reviewed the guard. Later, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited the Brandenburg Gate, laid a wreath at the Neue Wache (the central war memorial in Berlin), visited the Humboldt Forum, and the German Bundestag. Their last engagement was with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In the evening, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended a State Banquet Schloss Bellevue, held in their honour by President Gauck. They received guests, and both the President and King Carl Gustaf gave speeches about the close future relationship of  Germany and Sweden.

For the arrival, King Carl Gustaf wore uniform. For the day events, Queen Silvia wore a knitted coat with a fawn hat and pearl jewellry. For the State Banquet, she wore a magenta gown with the Connaught Diamond Tiara, pearl earrings, and a diamond rivière. King Carl Gustaf wore Black Tie.
