Danish Opening of Parliament 2016

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark was joined by members of her family at the opening session of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on the morning of October 4th. This was the first year that Prince Henrik, Queen Margrethe’s consort, wasn’t present due to his retirement.

Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte were waiting Queen Margrethe her on the steps and followed as she led them into the Royal Box to watch proceedings unfold. They also listened to a speech from Denmark’s Prime Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen. Unlike in Britain, the Danish Royals have little involvement in the proceedings, and are just spectators.
