King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie’s Silver Anniversary, 1989

Happy Anniversary to King Constantine II and Queen Anne Marie of Greece, who got married on this day in 1964! To mark the occasion, we are taking a look at their lavish Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebrations on this day in 1989, which were organised by Queen Ingrid.

Celebrations started on the evening of September 16th, when Queen Ingrid hosted a Gala Dinner in the Riddarsalen Gallery of Kronborg Castle, with everything themed to the to the reign of King Christian IV, including the menu, with the meat hunted by Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, the salmon provided by the Norwegian Royal Family, and the wine from Prince Henrik’s Chateau de Caix. Royal guests included Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, Princess Benedikte and Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, King Juan-Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, with Crown Prince Felipe and Infanta Christin, King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, with Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso, and Prince Constantjin, Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden with Princess Desiree and Princess Christina, Empress Farah of Iran, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

The following day, the couple and the Royal Guests attended a Luncheon hosted by Queen Margrethe at Frederiksborg Palace, posing with the Royal Guests which included King Juan-Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, with Crown Prince Felipe and Infanta Christin, King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola of Belgium, King Olav of Norway, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, with Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso, and Prince Constantjin, Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden with Princess Desiree and Princess Christina, Queen Noor, Crown Prince Hassan and Crown Princess Sarvath of Jordan, Empress Farah of Iran, King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia, Tsar Simeon and Queen Margarita of Bulgaria, The Prince of Wales, Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and Prince Michael of Greece. Many of these Royal Guests attended the couple’s wedding in 1964.

In the evening, King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie (wearing her Sapphire Necklace) hosted a Gala Dinner and Ball at Fredensborg Palace, where they first met, which was attended by all the Royal Guests, and where the King delivered a Speech.
