The Wedding of Prince Amedeo of Savoy, the Duke of Apulia and future Duke of Aosta, and Princess Anne of Orléans in a Civil Ceremony at the San Ferdinando Palace and a Religious Ceremony at the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola in Naples on this day in 1927, followed by a balcony appearance at the Palace of Capodimonte. Royal guests and relatives included their parents the Duke and Duchess of Aosta (wearing the Savoy Aosta Knot and Star Tiara) and the Duke and Duchess of Guise (in the Orléans Sapphire Parure), King Vittorio Emanuele of Italy, King Alfonso XIII of Spain, Queen Amelie of Portugal (wearing the Dom Luis Diadem), Crown Prince Umberto of Italy, Princess Giovanna of Savoy, Prince Philipp of Hesse, Prince Paul of Greece, Princess Marie Jose of Belgium and Princess Irene of Greece (in her Diamond Tiara). The couple had two daughters, including Archduchess Margherita of Austria-Este, and remained happily married until his death in an Allied POW Camp in 1942, during the Second World War.
