The Queen and members of the Royal Family attended the annual Christmas Service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk on December 25th. Most of the members of the family are staying with the Queen on the Sandringham Estate for the Holidays, after she hosted a luncheon for the extended Royal Family at Buckingham Palace. Today marks the Anniversary of the birth of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, who was born on this day in 1879! The Mecklenburg-Schwerin Princess who became the popular Danish Queen and “the only German Danes wanted to keep” during the Nazi Occupation, Queen Alexandrine did not wear many jewels but possessed the Art Deco Diamond Sautoir!
Today marks the Anniversary of the Birth of Dame Margaret Greville, the Hon Mrs Greville, who was born on this day in 1863. The illegitimate daughter of a brewery millionaire, she married the son of a Baron, and became a noted Society Hostess, from her magnificent home at Polesden Lacey. The Queen, accompanied by the Prince of Wales, presided over the Official Opening of the Session of Parliament in the Chamber of the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster in London on December 19th. This was a ‘dressed down’ version of the State Opening, devoid of pageantry and ceremony, right after the UK General Election, and just two months after the last State Opening. Continue reading
The Queen hosted her annual Christmas Lunch for members of the extended British Royal Family at Buckingham Palace on December 18th. This lunch is held for those family members who aren’t invited to spend Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham in Norfolk, due to lack of space.
