Today marks the Anniversary of the Birth of Princess Patricia of Connaught / Lady Patricia Ramsay, who was born on this day in 1886! The granddaughter of Queen Victoria who gave up her title to marry a Scottish Earl’s son and was the aunt of Swedish and Danish Royals, Lady Patricia wore several magnificent jewels, including this Diamond Tiara!
Diamond Tiara | Honeysuckle Tiara | Fringe Tiara | Diamond Jubilee Chain | Diamond Bow Brooch | Pearl Brooch | Maple Leaf Brooch | Diamond Brooch
This Diamond Tiara, featuring diamond elements atop a diamond base, seems to have been worn by Lady Patricia at events after her wedding in 1919, and despite its antique design, it doesn’t appear to be an heirloom Connaught or Ramsay piece!
One of the earliest appearances of the Tiara was in 1924, when it was worn by Lady Patricia for a Banquet at Lansdowne House in London.
Lady Patricia notably wore the Tiara at the Wedding Ball of her niece, Princess Ingrid of Sweden, and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in 1935.
In 1939, Lady Patricia wore the Tiara at a Gala at Covent Garden in honour of the State Visit of the French President, on the eve of the Second World War.
In 1950, Lady Patricia wore her Diamond Tiara for Gala Performance at Covent Garden, in honour of another State Visit by another French President, the first after the end of the Second World War.
Lady Patricia also wore her Diamond Tiara for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in 1953, paired with the Connaught Diamond Bow Brooch.
Lady Patricia also wore her Diamond Tiara was for the Swedish State Visit in 1954 and the Portuguese State Visit in 1955.
In 1960, Lady Patricia wore the Tiara for a Banquet hosted by King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid to celebrate their Silver Anniversary. Since this Tiara wasn’t auctioned with Lady Patricia’s jewels in 1974, it is supposedly still with her granddaughters.
