Engagement of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

The Royal Family announced the Engagement of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson at Buckingham Palace on this day in 1986, 40 years ago!

Following the Announcement of the Engagement of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the couple posed for pictures on the lawn of Buckingham Palace and later gave an interview. The Prince and Sarah had gotten privately engaged at Floors Castle in Scotland on his Birthday a month earlier.

During the photo call, the bride unveiled the custom-designed Burmese ruby engagement ring surrounded by 10 diamonds.

The Duke and Duchess of York got married that July, and had two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, before divorcing in 1996, though they remained on very good terms and lived together for many years until recently.
