Queen Sonja of Norway joined Princess Benedikte and Count Nikolai of Monpezat as they supported Queen Margrethe II of Denmark at the premiere of the Christmas ballet ‘The Snow Queen’ at the Tivoli Concert Hall in Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen on November 27th.
HM Queen Margrethe II, numerous ballet dancers, and the rest of the team behind the Christmas ballet The Snow Queen took to the stage in the Concert Hall of the 182-year-old amusement park and pleasure garden in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, curtseying and bowing six times following the revival premiere of the production, for which the Danish Queen Margrethe has designed both the sets and the costumes. The musician Oh Land has composed the score, and Yuri Possokhov choreographed the ballet. The Snow Queen runs in Tivoli’s Concert Hall until 21 December.
The red carpet was rolled out, and among the evening’s guests were HM Queen Sonja of Norway, Queen Margrethe’s younger sister HRH Princess Benedikte, and Queen Margrethe’s grandson HE Count Nikolai, all of whom attended the performance.
The Christmas ballet The Snow Queen is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale of the same name and is being restaged in the year marking the 220th anniversary of his birth and the 150th anniversary of his death. Many also know the Snow Queen story from Disney’s film Frozen. The production is a tribute to the Danish fairytale author, who also wrote stories such as The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling.
