Wedding of Lady Palmer and Sir Alexander Abel Smith, 1953

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended the Wedding of Henriette, the Dowager Lady Palmer and Brigadier Sir Alexander Abel Smith at the Queen’s Chapel on Malborough Gate at St James Palace in London on this day in 1953, which was attended by their four respective children. 

Lady Palmer, a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen from 1949 to 1987, was the widow of Sir Anthony Palmer, 4th Bt, and had two children, Sir Mark Palmer and Lady Christopher Thynne, while Sir Alexander, the brother-in-law of the Queen’s cousin, Lady May Abel Smith, was also a widower with two children.  The couple would go on to have two more children and remained married until his death in 1980. Lady Abel Smith passed away in 2005.
