Queen Elizabeth (wearing the Aquamarine Pine-Flower Tiara, Coronation Necklace and Earrings, Coronation Rivière, and Queen Victoria’s Diamond Bracelet) and Princess Elizabeth (wearing the Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace and her Wedding Gift Bracelet) attend a Gala Performance of Frederick Ashton’s Tiresias by the Sadler’s Wells Ballet at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on this day 1951, in aid of the Sadler’s Wells Ballet Benevolent Fund. Tiresias was one of three ballets commissioned for the Festival of Britain.

  1. One of the very few viewings of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wearing this tiara. A bit sad she didn’t use it more often. There are a lot of diamonds in that photo as one would expect, but in addition to the tiara I believe Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother is actually also wearing an aquamarine brooch as the clasp on her handbag.
