The Funeral of King Alfonso XIII of Spain at the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome on this day in 1941, followed by a procession through Rome for the burial in the Church of Santa Maria in Monserrato degli Spagnoli, the Spanish National Church in Rome, below the tombs of Popes Callixtus III and Alexander VI. In 1980, following the restoration of the Spanish Monarch under his grandson, King Juan Carlos, the King’s remains were transferred to El Escorial in Spain. In addition to Queen Victoria Eugenie, their surviving children: Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona, Infante Jaime, Duke of Segovia, Infanta Beatriz, Princess of Civitella-Cesi, and Infanta María Cristina and their spouses, royal attendees included King Victor Emanuel III of Italy and Crown Prince Umberto.
