King George V (in the Order of the Garter, Royal Victorian Order, Order of the Thistle, and the Order of the Bath) and Queen Mary (wearing Queen Victoria’s Regal Circlet, the Cullinan Diamonds, Queen Victoria’s Bow Brooches and the Order of the Garter) preside over the State Opening of Parliament in the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster on this day in 1911, which was the first State Opening of their Reign. The King and Queen were photographed in the Robing Room of the House of Lords.
