Dutch State Visit to Spain, 1985

The Spanish Royal Family hosted Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of The Netherlands on their State Visit to Spain on this day in 1985, the highlight was the State Banquet hosted by King Juan Carlos (wearing the Order of the Netherlands Lion) Queen Sofia (in the Fleur-de-Lys Tiara and the Order of the Netherlands Lion) in honour of Queen Beatrix (wearing the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara and the Order of the Golden Fleece, the first female to receive the honour) and Prince Claus (in the Order of Charles III) at the Royal Palace of Madrid. Infanta Elena (wearing the Floral Tiara and the Order of Orange-Nassau) and Infanta Cristina (in the Prussian Diamond Tiara and the Order of Orange-Nassau) were also present.

Other events included an Official Welcome, a Lunch at the Zarzuela Palace, a Reception for the Dutch Community in Spain, a visit to Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Lunch at La Moncloa, and a Return Dinner at the Museo del Prado. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia made a State Visit to the Netherlands in 1980 and again in 2001, while this was the last Dutch State Visit to Spain as of yet.
