The Christening of Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, the Prince of Naples in the Pauline Chapel of the Quirinale Palace in Rome on this day in 1937, after which King Victor Emmanuel III, Queen Elena (in the Pearl and Diamond Tiara), Crown Prince Umberto, Crown Princess Marie Jose (wearing Queen Margherita’s Musy Tiara and her Bow Brooch), and the Princess Henriette of Belgium, Duchess of Vendôme (h/t to Regal Events) waved to the crowds from the balcony of the Quirinal Palace.

A very grand affair indeed! I enjoyed watching the photos and just wish that things would still be a bit grander than they are these days 🙂
It really was! I wonder if you know who the lady was that stood with the King and Queen at the front and then also appeared on the balcony? I’ve been searching for a few years but have no idea who she is!
It took me some while to figure it out too, but she is the Henrietta, Duchess of Vendôme, born Princess of Belgium. She is the paternal aunt of Princess Marie-José and represented Queen Elisabeth of Belgium at the christening.
Wow, that’s amazing! Thank you so much!
