King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan hosted King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway on their State Visit to Jordan from March 2nd to the 4th, to celebrate and build diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. This is the first Norwegian State Visit to the Middle East, 20 years after the Jordanian State Visit to Norway, as well as the 50th State Visit of King Harald’s Reign and the first official incoming visit to Jordan in King Abdullah’s reign.

After arriving in Jordan earlier, King Harald and Queen Sonja attended a Dinner at the Norwegian Embassy in Amman on the evening of March 1st. The following morning, the King and Queen were officially welcomed to Jordan by King Abdullah II and Queen Rania at the at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman.

The Welcome Ceremony was followed by a meeting with the delegations and an official luncheon featuring Norwegian seafood. Crown Prince Hussein, Prince Ali and Princess Rym were also present. Later, King Harald and Queen Sonja were joined by King Abdullah and Queen Rania as they attended the opening of the seminar “Future Partnerships: Jordan-Norway Business Forum”.

In the evening, King Abdullah and Queen Rania hosted a State Banquet in honour of King Harald and Queen Sonja at the Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman. Both Kings gave Speeches. Crown Prince Hussein was also present.

The following morning, King Harald and Queen Sonja visited a project working to integrate Syrian children through education and football, before being joined by King Abdullah and Queen Rania to visit the Baptism Site on the Jordan River. Later, the King and Queen attended an interreligious ceremony at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bethany and the King attended a seminar “Preserving Spaces for Dialogue: What can Jordan and Norway do together?” In the evening, King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted an official friendship dinner for Jordanian and Norwegian guests.

On the final day of the visit, King Harald and Queen Sonja visited the ruins of the ancient city of Petra, one of the New7Wonders of the World and a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan’s most-visited tourist attraction.
