American State Visit to Japan

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan are hosting American President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on their State Visit to Japan from May 25th to 28th, to strengthen diplomatic, political, and economic ties. The President is on a long Foreign Tour and will be on a State Visit to the United Kingdom next week. This is the first State Visit of their Reign, after the Emperor’s Accession earlier this month. On the morning of May 27th, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako received President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The Emperor and President reviewed the guard, before the group had an audience with members of the Japanese Imperial Family, including Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko.

In the evening, Emperor Naruhito hosted a State Banquet at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, held in honour of the President and First Lady. Both the President and Emperor gave speeches. Members of the Imperial Family, as well as people with links to the United States and Japan were also present.

  1. I was hoping for a tiara for the new Empress Masako at her first State Banquet. I hope that she will thrive in her new role.

      1. Oh, my goodness, yes! It was an amazing necklace! I wonder if it’s a new piece or part of the Imperial collection that we hadn’t seen before. The new Empress looked very excellent in her new role. I hope she feels excellent too!
