Civil Guard 175th Anniversary Parade at the Royal Palace of Madrid

King Felipe (wearing the Order of Military Merit) and Queen Letizia of Spain presided over a parade commemorating the 175th Anniversary of the founding of the Civil Guard at the Royal Palace of Madrid on May 13th. Founded by Royal Decree in 1844, the Civil Guard was created as a “special corps of armed force of Infantry and Cavalry”, by Field Marshal Francisco Javier Girón y Ezpeleta, II Duque de Ahumada, and is the oldest law enforcement agency in Spain.
