Funeral of Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg, 2005

Later today, Royals from around Europe will gather for the Funeral of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, and we are flashing back to the last State Funeral in Luxembourg, that of his late wife Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte in 2005. The Funeral at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg followed a Procession from the Grand Ducal Palace. In accordance with her wishes, Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte’s remains were then cremated, and her ashes were placed in the Grand Ducal Crypt at the Cathedral.

The entire Grand Ducal Family, including Grand Duke Jean and their five children, were in attendance along with her Belgian siblings, including King Albert, Queen Paola, and Queen Fabiola, and various nieces and nephews.

Other Royal Guests included Queen Margrethe II and Princess Benedikte of Denmark, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie of Greece, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, Queen Sofia of Spain, Queen Sonja of Norway, the Duke of York, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, of Japan, Prince Albert of Monaco, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein, and Prince Moulay Rashid of Morocco.
