Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother absolutely conquered gruff King George V. He was always in a good mood when she was around. He also doted on his granddaughter Princess Elizabeth, and she called him “Grandfather England”. I guess he suspected that little Princess Elizabeth was his heir since he had no confidence that his eldest son Prince Edward would fulfill his duties. As it turned out, he was right.
