King Juan Carlos of Spain inaugurates the first democratically-elected Spanish Cortes in more than forty years, in the presence of 800 deputies and senators and Queen Sofia, in Madrid on this day in 1977. The King was instrumental in bringing back democracy after four decades of fascist dictatorship.
