The Wedding of King Michael of Romania and Princess Anne of Bourbon-Parma (wearing the Romanian Greek Key Tiara and Queen Marie’s Diamond Sautoir with the Greek Order of Saints Olga and Sophia) at the Royal Palace of Athens on this day in 1948. The King had been forced to abdicate just months previously and the wedding was hosted by his maternal uncle, King Paul of Greece. The bride’s family were not in attendance since the Pope had not approved the union. Royal attendees included Queen Mother Helen of Romania, Queen Frederica, Crown Prince Constantine, Princess Sofia, and Princess Irene of Greece, Princess Nicholas of Greece, Princess Paul of Yugoslavia, Prince George of Hanover, and Princess Sophie of Greece among others.
