Duchess of Cambridge at Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and St Thomas’ Hospital

The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), her new patronage, and St Thomas’ Hospital to launch the Nursing Now campaign on February 27th.

Upon arrival at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Duchess learned about the RCOG’s education and training programmes for doctors wishing to specialise in this field, and how practical examinations fit into the training process. She saw how the College’s workshops and continued training support trainee doctors to develop safe surgical techniques and essential clinical skills in obstetrics and gynaecology. The Duchess then learned more about the work carried out by the RCOG’s Centre for Women’s Global Health, in particular about the Leading Safe Choices programme, which operates in South Africa and Tanzania. Finally, she attended a roundtable discussion focussed on exploring how the stigma which surrounds women’s health can be challenged.

The Duchess of Cambridge started her visit at the Snow Leopard ward at St Thomas’s Hospital, where she saw the expertise and dedication of nurses as they care for children in the Ward. She then join a roundtable discussion with nurses across the career spectrum, from trainees to consultant nurses. Finally, the Duchess attended launch event in the Main Hall to deliver a speech to mark the launch of the Nursing Now campaign.

  1. I really like the Duchess of Cambridge. She always looks delighted to be wherever she is. She dresses very nicely, but she never tries to upstage neither her husband nor her hosts. I think she’s genuine in her desire to shine some light on issues that she believes in. Prince William was very lucky indeed to have found her!
