Happy 20th Anniversary to Infanta Cristina of Spain and Iñaki Urdangarin, who got married on this day in 1997 in Barcelona. The couple have four children and have remained married despite being on trial after a corruption case, which resulted in the Infanta being acquitted and her husband charged to six years of imprisonment. In honour of their anniversary, we are taking a look at their wedding-
Infanta Cristina was walked up the aisle of Barcelona Cathedral by her father, King Juan Carlos.
After the ceremony, the couple, then newly appointed Duchess and Duke of Palma de Mallorca (which they have since lost), waved to the crowds as they exited Barcelona Cathedral.
The newlyweeds rode through the streets of Barcelona, waving to the crowds on their way to the reception.
Guests at the wedding included the King, Queen, and Crown Princess of Sweden, the King and Queen of Norway, Empress Farah of Iran, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, the Prince and Princess of Lichtenstein, Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie Chantal of Greece.
Iñaki Urdangarin wore Morning Dress. Infanta Cristina wore a custom Lorenzo Caprile gown, made of silk specially made in Valencia, with an heirloom lace veil, the Spanish Floral Tiara, and the earrings from the Joyas de Pasar, a special treat as those can only be worn by the Queen of Spain.
