Enthronement of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, 1973

After the death of his grandfather a few days earlier, the Enthronement Ceremony of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was held in Stockholm on this day in 1973-

King Carl XVI Gustaf (wearing the Order of the SeraphimOrder of the Polar StarOrder of the Sword) was enthroned in a lavish ceremony in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace of Stockholm. He delivered a speech from the Throne draped with ermine. The Crown Jewels were displayed but not worn.

After the Enthronement Ceremony, King Carl XVI Gustaf  waved to the crowds from the Balcony of the Royal Palace of Stockholm. He was joined by his four sisters (wearing King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Portrait Brooch) and uncle, Prince Bertil.
