Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the Royal Maundy Service at Leicester Cathedral on Maundy Thursday, April 13th, in Leicester. Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. The Queen commemorates Maundy by offering ‘alms’ to senior citizens in recognition of service to the church and to the local community.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were met by officials as they arrived at the Royal Maundy Service at Leicester Cathedral. During the service, the Queen distributed ceremonial Maundy money to 91 men and 91 women from the local community of senior citizens, in recognition of the service they have given to the church and to the local community. Later, an official photograph was taken of the Queen and Duke with the recipients. Afterwards, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended a reception and community lunch at St Martins House.

The Queen wore a teal coat and hat, pairing her Three Strand Pearl Necklace with the Botswana Flower Brooch. The Duke of Edinburgh wore Morning Dress.
