Spanish State Visit to Japan- Day 2

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are on a State Visit to Japan from April 4th-7th with the aim of strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Spain. They are based in Tokyo and will also visit Shizuoka. On the morning and throughout most of the afternoon of April 6th, the King and Queen had separate engagements. The joined for bilateral mettings at the Akasaka Palace, and attended a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Japan.

King Felipe started his day at a working breakfast with Japanese entrepreneurs that have interests in Spain. Afterwards, he attended a meeting with the Bilateral Committee for Spain-Japan Business Cooperation. At noon, the King had an audience with Japanese personalities linked to Hispanism and Spanish language and culture studies, as well as Japanese national award winners with the Prince of Asturias Award. Meanwhile, Queen Letizia visited Keio University and the Genetic Medical Center, where she met with medical researchers in the fight against cancer and attended the lectures by the president of the Japanese Agency for Research and Medical Development (AMED) and the director general of the Keio University Hospital and Professor Naohisa Yahagai, after a brief tour of the facilities of the Immunotherapy Oncology Center, and a visit to the treatment area of patients and the pharmacy.

In the afternoon, King Felipe and Queen Letizia went to the Akasaka Palace, for a series of bilateral meetings between the Spanish and Japanese delegations headed by King Felipe and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. Afterwards, the King and Queen attended a dinner hosted by the Japanese Prime Minister at the Akasaka Palace. Both the King and Prime Minister gave speeches.

For the day events, King Felipe wore a striped grey suit with an orange tie. Queen Letizia wore a Hugo Boss red coat over a Hugo Boss white blouse and the Hugo Boss ‘Marala’  grey skirt. For the dinner, King Felipe wore a dark suit with a red tie. Queen Letizia wore an Armani black velvet dress with floral silk details and Queen Sofia’s ruby and diamond earrings.
