Spanish State Visit to Britain 2017

It has been announced that King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain will be undertaking a State Visit to the UK this June, from the 6th to the 8th. They are expected to stay at Buckingham Palace with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. The King and Queen were due to visit the UK in March 2016, but that was cancelled due to political turmoil in Spain. The last Spanish State Visit to the UK was in 1986. The Queen last visited Spain in 1988.

UPDATE #2: Details have been released by Buckingham Palace:

The schedule consists of:

Day 1 – July 12th

  • King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be greeted at their London hotel by the Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall
  • Official Welcome at Horse Guard Parade
  • Lunch with the Queen & Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace
  • Tea at Clarence House with the Prince of Wales & Duchess of Cornwall
  • Visit Parliament
  • State Banquet at Buckingham Palace

Day 2 – July 13th 

  • King Felipe and Queen Letizia will attend a UK-Spain Business Forum at Mansion House with the Duke of York
  • Visit Westminster Abbey with Prince Harry
  • Reception for members of the Spanish Community at Spanish Embassy
  • Meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May at Downing Street
  • Banquet hosted by Lord Mayor of London
Day 3 – July 14th 
  • Working Breakfast
  • Say Goodbye to the Queen & Prince Philip
  • Visit the Francis Crick Institute
  • Visit Weston Library in Oxford
  • Lunch at Oxford’s Divinity School
  • Visit Exeter College, home of the King Alfonso XIII Professorship of Spanish Studies and the Queen Sofía Fellowship in Spanish.
  • Official End of Tour
  • King Felipe and Queen Letizia depart.
