The Countess of Barcelona, mother King Juan Carlos and grandmother of the present King Felipe of Spain, died on this day in 2000. In her honour, we will take a look a one of her gala events; Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain (wearing the Ansorena Fleur de Lys Tiara and Cartier Stomacher), her daughter-in-law and son,the Countess (wearing the Mellerio Shell Tiara) and Count of Barcelona leaving Claridges Hotel in London on November 17, 1947, to attend a dance at Buckingham Palace before the Wedding of then Princess Elizabeth and Lt. Philip Mountbatten. This picture is unique, as there are no pictures from inside the Palace, and this is the only one which shows the grandness of the event.
