The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, accompanied by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, attended the Annual Diplomatic reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on the evening of the 8th of December. The glittering white tie affair is the the main ambassadorial social event of the year in London. Usually there are no pictures released of the event, but this year the Royal Family account on Twitter unexpectedly released a group photo just before the reception, delighting all those who have longed to see pictures of the royals at this event.
The Prince of wales, Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge were pictured entering Buckingham palace before the reception. The Royal family were pictured in one of the rooms of Buckingham Palace just before the reception. In addition to ambassadors, high commissioners and their partners, around 600 foreign diplomats based in London were among the guests together with around 300 British diplomats and senior figures from commerce, education, broadcasting and the arts.
The Queen wore a white Angela Kelly evening gown with the Modern Sapphire Tiara and the George VI sapphire parure. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a white Bruce Oldfield gown with the Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara, Pear Drop Diamond earrings, and her pearl choker with the large diamond clasp. The Duchess of Cambridge repeated a red Jenny Packham gown with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, diamond earrings, and the Queen’s wedding gift bracelet.
The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, and Duke of Cambridge wore white tie with the Order of the Garter. Unlike State Banquets, as this is the grandest event, the Royal gentlemen wear knee-britches and the actual Garter with the sash over their white tie.
