The Christening of Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales, the second child of Queen Victoria (wearing the George IV State Diadem) and Prince Albert (in the Order of the Garter), by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the silver-gilt Lily Font on this day in 1842, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. His godparents were King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia, Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (great-uncle), Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (great-uncle), The Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (step-grandmother), The Dowager Duchess of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (step-great-grandmother), and Princess Sophia (great-aunt).
