Coronation of the Sultan of Kedah

The State of Kedah has been hosting Royalty from Malaysia and Brunei this week, for a scene of glittering splendour surrounding the Coronation of the Sultan of Kedah, the first since 1959, who succeeded to the Throne last year. The Kingdom of Malaysia includes 9 Malay States with it’s own Hereditary Ruler, one of which is elected to serve as the ‘Yang di-Pertuan Agong’, King, for a period of 5 years.

On October 22nd, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Badlishah was crowned the the 29th Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman in a lavish ceremony at the Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar, which was followed by a Luncheon at Balai Santapan Besar and a Procession through the city. Guests included the Heirs and Regents of the Malay States, including the Crown Prince and Crown Princess (wearing her Wedding Tiara) of Brunei, the Regent of Pahang, Yang Maha Mulia the Regent of Kelantan, Duli-Duli Yang Teramat Mulia the Raja-Raja Muda, and the Yang Di-Pertua-Yang Di-Pertua Negeri.

On October 27th, the Sultan and Sultanah of Kedah hosted a glittering Banquet at the Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar, which was attended by all the Rulers of the Malay States, including the Sultan of Brunei and Queen Saleha (in her Diamond Heart Tiara), the Sultan and Sultanah of Terengganu, the Sultan and Raja Permaisuri of Perak, the Raja and Raja Perempuan of Perlis, the Tunku Temenggong of Johor , the Sultan and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, and the Regent and Tengku Puan of Pahang.
